LIBERTY, Septemberr 15, 2016 – The Lakata Club met September 13, 2016 for its first meeting of the club year at the home of Linda Harris which was beautifully decorated for fall. President Sharron Stovall welcomed everyone back after summer break. Following the prayer voiced by Sandra Voytek, hostesses Jean Blackburn, Vivian Harris, and Linda served a delicious luncheon.
Sharron congratulated Linda Harris for being named to the Dayton ISD Wall of Fame in May, a very prestigious accomplishment. She also thanked the hostesses for a wonderful meal and members Betty Tankersley and Linda for the beautiful yearbook which Linda then distributed.
Linda took us through the yearbook page by page, with this year’s theme being: Applaud the Past, Embrace the Present. She spent a lot of time during the summer at The Old School Museum going through Lakata’s previous yearbooks and scrapbooks to get ideas for each month’s meetings. In addition to the outstanding programs that will be presented, we will also reminisce about past accomplishments and members of Lakata Club. We are approaching our 70 year anniversary in 2017, and Linda asked that we be thinking about how we want to celebrate that event. This request began a conversation about many previous events during the years some of our members have been in Lakata Club. One of our charter members, Barbara Harris, has been present for all of those events.
The October meeting of Lakata Club will be held at the Parker House.
