Homeless Man Arrested for Stealing Pickup

LIBERTY, October 17, 2016 – On September 9, 2016, at approximately 7:35 AM, the Liberty Police Department received a call in reference to someone driving a vehicle on their property.

Upon arrival, contact was made with the complainant and the victim. The suspect was still on scene and it was advised the suspect, identified as John Harvey Hampton age 55 of Liberty, had no rights to be on the property. The suspect was taken into custody. Hampton is a homeless man from Liberty.

It was then determined that the vehicle he was driving, he was not authorized to use and been stolen from a nearby property.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that during the process of the vehicle being stolen, a
portion of chain link fence had been destroyed, a generator was stolen, other property was damaged,
and there were items in the bed of the truck that were no longer there.

Hampton was taken into custody and transported to Liberty County Jail without incident charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Criminal Trespass.

The total bond on these charges was $11,500 dollars.
