Major Accident on North Main at the Bypass
LIBERTY, October 12, 2016 – Around 9:45 AM on Wednesday a two-vehicle accident occurred on North Main Street at the SH 146 Bypass.
Liberty Fire and EMS responded to the scene to rescue the accident victims from the wreckage of their vehicle. They were entrapped due to the accident.
According to Liberty Police the Ford Explorer was occupied by an adult driver and child passenger. The force of the collision resulted in the death of the driver. The child passenger is OK.
Apparently the SUV was traveling North on the SH 146 Bypass and ran the red light at main Street while an 18-wheeler traveling south on North Main Street was attempting to turn left onto the Bypass.
Justice of the Peace Stephen Hebert arrived on the scene and conducted the inquest ordering an autopsy be performed.
The southbound lanes of North Main were closed and southbound traffic was being detoured onto the Bypass.
Liberty Police were investigating the accident and managing traffic control at the scene.
