March Meeting of Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club
LIBERTY, March 3, 2016 - The March meeting of the Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club will be held on, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The FLNB Corner (1822 Sam Houston Av, Liberty, TX) across for the First Liberty National Bank. Directions: from Hwy. 90, turn north on Travis St. (between Kentucky Fried Chicken and Whataburger), cross over the railroad tracks- The FLNB Corner is at the intersection of Sam Houston Av. and Travis St. Be sure to come early at 9:30 a.m. for our “Birder’s Chat” time. Our speaker for March will be Laurie Gonzales. She will be speaking on the Texas Master Naturalist Program in Liberty and issues with vultures in our area.
Laurie Lomas Gonzales is the wildlife Biologist at Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge in Liberty, TX. She has lived in Liberty for 11 years, but prior to that she lived in Florida, New Mexico, California, and the place where she grew up, south Texas. Laurie Is from the Rio Grande Valley. She attended college at Texas A&M University--Kingsville where she double-majored in Animal Science and in Biology, and then moved to New Mexico State University where she received her Master's Degree in Wildlife Science.
Laurie currently lives in Liberty with her husband, Chuck and their one year old twin boys, Jake and Andy. She says, "Here's the thing about raising twin boys, they are like wild animals. I might as well be raising a pair of raccoons!"
