US Fish and Wildlife Service Regional Director to Visit

LIBERTY June 23, 2015 - Dr. Benjamin Tuggle, US Fish and Wildlife Service Regional Director for four states (Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico) is scheduled to be at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday, June 30 at 10:00 am. Confirmation of his arrival will be sent out again on Monday, June 29. He is returning from another business trip in SE Texas and wants to stop by our Refuge to see some of our efforts in promoting pollinator species for butterflies, bees, and birds. Dr. Tuggle will also get the chance to see some of the effects from the continued flooding we are experiencing on the Refuge.

Most of you know that the Refuge has been closed since mid-May due to flood conditions. We will open the butterfly/hummingbird garden at the Champion Lake Public Use Area at 9:30 am for all of you that can attend. We hope to get a large crowd of Refuge supporters to impress the Regional Director on all the progress we have been making.

The Champion Lake Public Use Area is located at the end of CR 417, east of FM 1409. That is about 10 miles south of Hwy 90 in Dayton or 6 miles north of I-10 if coming in from the Mont Belvieu or Old River area. Hope to see some new faces.
