SpiritHorse Liberty Therapeutic Riding Center
LIBERTY August 20, 2015 – SpiritHorse Liberty Therapeutic Riding Center has the opportunity to serve more than 100 riders this fall session. In order to accomplish this, we need additional volunteers to help make a huge difference in the daily lives of these riders and their families.
Lessons are scheduled from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm every day Monday through Friday. If you have one or more evenings a week, you will be an asset. Some of our volunteers help after work. SpiritHorse has seen three riders take their first steps. Several have strengthened their core muscles so much that now they can sit unassisted. About 12 riders have said their first words while riding. One little boy, 4 years old, had several words but had not put them together to speak a sentence. He said his first sentence while talking to his horse. Many of our riders have increased their attention span from very little to 30 minutes and longer. Social skills have improved for many riders. They now interact with friends, family, and pets. One rider, with Asperger's , graduated from high school, accomplished his Boy Scout Eagle badge by building a 10 foot by 20 foot loafing shed at SpiritHorse Liberty. He now has a good job with a nice income.
In addition to providing riding lessons for special needs youth and adults, SpiritHorse Liberty Therapeutic Riding Center hosts school and rest home field trips. Students needing hours for various organizations are welcome to complete their hours with SpiritHorse Liberty Therapeutic Riding Center You may schedule a birthday party with us. We will speak to your organization. An excellent Horses for Heroes program is provided for veterans and first responders through SpiritHorse Liberty.
Our goal is "To assist each person with special needs in reaching their full potential through interaction with horses". Everyone at SpiritHorse is blessed by these riders.
Please call Donna at 936-641-0165 with questions about any of our programs and to volunteer.
