Shooting on Trinity River
DAYTON, June 1, 2015 - A Cleveland area resident, Guy Robert Woods in his early 30’s was shot in the left side of his stomach by an unknown subject while Mr. Woods was traveling up the flooded Trinity River in his boat from the Hwy. 105 bridge in mid-Liberty County at approximately 3:15 pm this evening. Liberty County Deputy Sheriff Darrell Werner reported that Mr. Woods and two friends had been boating on the Trinity River and after a trip down the river he let his two friends off under the Hwy. 105 bridge while he continued on up river alone.
According to the victim, he suddenly felt a “sting” on his left side and upon checking, found that he had apparently been shot with what appeared to be a small caliber bullet. He immediately scanned the shore line and saw a white male, approximately 6’-0” tall with no shirt and wearing a pair of light blue shorts turn and walk away from the river bank. Mr. Woods saw no gun in this person’s hands but this subject is the only person he saw in the vicinity at the time he was shot.
Returning to the Hwy. 105 bridge, his two friends called for an ambulance and Mr. Woods was transported to Herman hospital in Houston by air ambulance. At the time Mr. Woods left the scene he was alert and talking but his present condition is unknown.
