Second Person Dies at Liberty County Jail
LIBERTY, April 19, 2015 – At approximately 5:40pm this evening, personnel of the Liberty County Jail notified the Sheriff’s Office that inmate Jeremy Keith Shomo, D.O.B. 4-8-83 and a resident of the Orange, Texas area was found deceased in his “Seg-cell” (single person cell ) where he apparently hanged himself with a shoe lace attached to a shower hook. According to jail staff and as a precautionary measure, Shomo had been placed in a cell which is near the nurse’s station because it was thought he was faking seizures but showed no typical symptoms of such a medical issue. He was found deceased when regular checks were made of the inmates.
Jail records reflect that Jeremy Shomo and his wife were arrested by the City of Liberty Police Department on April 15th. for the offense of “Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle”. Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace, Judge Ronnie Davis responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy. The apparent suicide is being investigated by Sheriff’s Sgt. Investigator Chris Ungles and the Texas Rangers. Autopsy results will not be available for a few days.
