CLEVELAND August 19, 2015 – Today’s Drill was a huge success! Nearly 100 area Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, Haz-Mat and area School District Officials were present. Over two dozen Students, Teachers and Staff also participated as "Victims".
The scenario was very different than ANY other done before. We were truly an industry leader in this Exercise (Drill). The characteristics of today’s Drill was an adverse chemical reaction within a container inside of one of the Labs of our High School Science Department wing. (As many as six such "actual" documented cases right here in Texas in the last year)
This scenario dictated this was NOT an intentional act of some form of "Homegrown Terrorism". It was in fact, a very realistic action resembling an everyday series of experiment conducted in any High School across this State.
Chief Anderson (CFD) and I have worked many hours over the last six months with numerous regional Agencies to bring many assets to bear right here in Cleveland, Liberty County.
Today could not have happened, it could not have been the huge success it was without the help of some of the following people from our community;
Superintendent Dr. Myers
CISD School Board
Principal McCanles (CHS)
Faculty / Staff / Students of the Cleveland High School
The Ranch Hand Café
Liberty Co. Judge Jay Knight
Liberty Co. Commissioner Greg Arthur
Liberty Co. Commissioner Eddie Lowry
City of Cleveland City Counsel
City of Cleveland City Manager
And Susie- The Cake Maker!
Above all ---- YOU. The citizens who make up this great community and comprise the residency of this amazing County.
As for the various Agencies who attended and participated. They are as follows;
Cleveland ISD Police Department
City of Cleveland Police Department
City of Cleveland Fire Department
Atascocita Fire Department

Liberty Co. Office of Emergency Management

Please take a minute to look over the photos. There was approximately 10 million dollars’ worth of Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement assets at this drill. More importantly, well in excess of a couple of hundred years of combined First Responder experience was placed together here in Cleveland!!!
Before some of the out of town assets left, I can tell you, they were already emailing, pushing photos and information all across South East Texas speaking very highly of Cleveland, Cleveland ISD, Liberty County and what we, combined, accomplished.
To be a leader in one's industry or profession is a very humbling experience. I am so proud to have been a small part in such a large successful operation. While learning and preparing, we were able to show the world the outstanding potential we have right here at home!!!
Again, thank you all SO much for what you do for us and how much support all that we do here.
