Vote then Quilt on May 9
LIBERTY, April 28, 2015 – Please VOTE EARLY in Your Local Election on Saturday, May 9, then come for a free quilt workshop from 10 am - 4 pm at the Liberty Church of Christ Family Life Center, 3201 N. Main. The topic of the workshop will be How to Do Fusible Applique using Pre-Cut Kits.
There is no cost for the class and no experience required – if you can paint by number, you will be able to do this quilting technique. You will need to bring a small iron and an ironing pad. Other items needed will be small scissors and an applique press cloth if you have one; plus your favorite drinks / snacks / desserts for the day. For those who do not have an applique press cloth, we will provide some Parchment Paper for you. We are also going to be in need of ladies who know how to hand embroidery because we have a few places on these blocks that require hand embroidery. If you embroidery, call the number below to find out what color threads will be needed. Who knows we may have you teach a few of the ladies so they can help out on that part of the blocks.
The Liberty County Republican Women are making a quilt, called Happy Trails by Pearl P Pereira, (look up on the internet if you wish) which is a Baltimore Album-type quilt that will be used by the Republican Party as their raffle quilt for next year. Since there are so many blocks in this quilt, we thought it would be a perfect one to use as a teaching tool for this class and possibly get some of the blocks done at the same time. As you can tell, we need more ladies to help with our blocks. Consequently, you will not have to bring any fabrics to class, just the items listed above. We will not be doing any sewing at this workshop. For those who want to participate in the quilting or learn how to put the quilt blocks together, another workshop will be scheduled for that. On the label on the back of the quilt, we will have a list of all women in the county who worked on this quilt. Come join us and be part of our county’s history in quilt form. Door prizes will be drawn occasionally throughout the event and you must be present to win.
Ladies from the Liberty County Republican Women will provide soups and salads for lunch. Please RSVP no later than Thursday, May 7, to firstname.lastname@example.org or call/text 713-826-2806 to let us know how many will be in attendance.
Be sure to VOTE before you come to quilt so you won’t miss out on any of our fun. Men are also invited to attend.
