LIBERTY, December 2, 2015 – The Liberty County Republican Women are giving voters two excellent opportunities to get to know the candidates better–please take advantage by attending and educating yourself.
Be the first to meet all the candidates running for office on Monday, Dec. 14 at 7 pm at the Liberty Opry. The Liberty County Republican Women are sponsoring an Open Forum after the last candidates sign up to run. Candidates have from Nov 14 - Dec 14, 6 pm to sign up to run for office. Ken Coleman, Chairman of the Liberty County Republican Party, will be at the Liberty Opry dining room from 4 - 6 pm on Monday, Dec 14, for those last minute people who have decided to run. Winn Skidmore, notary, will be available to notarize applications. No one will be allowed to sign up after 6 pm.
At 6 pm, those interested in finding out who has signed up is invited to join everyone at the Liberty Opry dining room for a spaghetti supper for $8.50 (please call the Opry at 936-336-5830 to reserve your meal). Immediately following the meal will be the first forum this year which will feature all the candidates who have signed up. It is always interesting to see who waits until the end to sign up – is there a surprise in store for everyone? Candidates will each have 3 minutes to introduce themselves; tell something about themselves (work, hobbies, family, etc); then tell voters what makes them qualified for the position they are seeking, and how, if elected, they would make a difference in Liberty County. Since candidates for the same position will be introduced in the same grouping, it will be the first time voters will have to compare candidates for the various positions. If time permits, questions may be asked of the candidates.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase patriotic pins/buttons which puts you in a drawing for either a conceal carry purse (drawing on March 1) or a Blue Ribbon Quilt made by ladies in our community (drawing on Election Day 2016).
On January 29, 2016, voters will have another opportunity to meet the candidates at the “GEM of an Affair” (Greet, Eat, and Meet with the candidates) at the Dayton Community Center. At that event, again sponsored by the Liberty County Republican Women, voters will have the opportunity to walk around the ballroom and talk and eat with each candidates and spend more one-on-one time to get to know who those candidates are and what they stand for. Plus, voters get to taste food provided by the candidates and to bid on silent auction items provided by candidates.
Mark your calendars for these two events.
