Heavy Rainfall Threat Late this Afternoon
LIBERTY, March 20, 2015 - A storm system will approach from the west today and combine with well above normal moisture and a slow moving front to produce heavy rainfall.
The heavy rainfall threat will likely begin late this afternoon across western areas and slowly shift east/southeast tonight into Saturday morning with the front. The precipitation should taper off across eastern areas Saturday night.
Widespread 1 to 3 inches are expected with isolated amounts of 4 to 6 inches possible.
We are monitoring the flood potential given the nearly saturated grounds. We still have several rivers/creeks that are near or slightly above bankfull, and the expected rainfall amounts would send many creeks/rivers back into flood status. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for areas generally north and west of a Columbus to Conroe to Coldspring line through Saturday night. The watch could be expanded toward the coast if the axis of heavier rain shifts further east than expected.
