Sheriff Rader Announces Firearm Training Classes
LIBERTY, December 14, 2015 – Sheriff Rader has announced that the Sheriff’s Department will be training deputies on the new open carry handgun law in classes offered on January 4th and 8th of the new year at the Sheriff’s Office.
Not necessarily a bad idea in and of itself. However, the person doing the training will be Terry Holcomb of Coldspring, Texas. This may ring a bell since he is a Republican political figure having run for State Representative a few years ago.
He also has a criminal record having been arrested for Burglary of a Building for which he had to pay a fine and pay restitution receiving Deferred Adjudication.
Holcomb is not so much an instructor but an advocate of gun rights.
There are qualified handgun instructors in our neighboring communities of Beaumont and Houston that are highly qualified to provide such training. Why should a gun advocate with a political agenda and a criminal record be the person to train our deputies?
There is no word yet on just how much all this will cost Liberty County taxpayers or what Mr. Holcomb plans to teach.
