Matthew Poston Candidate for Liberty County Attorney
LIBERTY, October 6, 2015 - Matthew Poston, Assistant District Attorney, is pleased to announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the position of County Attorney for Liberty County.
Since 2013, Matthew has had the honor and pleasure of working as Assistant District Attorney under Logan Pickett, District Attorney, and has prosecuted all types of felonies. While there, he has been a leader of the office in the number of cases tried and closed. He has prosecuted cases from small quantity drug possessions to white collar crime, stabbings, shootings, burglaries, and child sexual abuse.

The Liberty County Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all Class A and B misdemeanors punishable up to a year or 180 days county jail, respectively. Matthew is eager to continue a strong relationship with all the county’s law enforcement agencies and personnel.
In the years between passing the bar examination and joining the DA’s office, Matthew was an associate with the law firm of Fielder and Gunter before starting his own solo practice. In private practice, Matthew had the opportunity to research, advise and litigate in numerous areas of the law, including commercial, contracts, real estate, title insurance, local government, probate, condemnation, eviction, juvenile, family, termination of parental rights and criminal defense.
Matthew is the son of John and Cheryl Poston, a long time teacher and counselor in Dayton ISD. Matthew graduated from Dayton High School in 1999, and then attended Baylor University for two years. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth, he transferred to the University of Houston, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He went on to obtain his law degree from the University of Houston as well. Mary is a practicing physician assistant at Firm Foundations Healthcare Clinic in Liberty, Texas. They are the proud parents of their beautiful, four year-old daughter, Vivian.
An amateur endurance athlete, Matthew has completed a 50-mile ultra marathon and several triathlons including Ironman Texas. He looks forward to bringing his discipline and passion to the Liberty County Attorney’s office.
