Sheriff Department Performance in Question
LIBERTY, December 2, 2015 - The performance of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department in solving crime comes into clear view with the release of the Uniformed Crime Statistics published today by the Department of Public Safety.
The results for 2014 are worse than the year before demonstrating the ability of the Sheriff’s Office to solve crime is in steady decline.
In 2014 the number of offenses was 983 with only 194 of those offenses cleared and only 104 people arrested.
In 2013 counties of the size of Liberty County in Texas cleared on average 22 percent of their cases.
In 2014 the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department cleared only 19% of its' cases, below the average clearance rate for counties in Texas of our size. There were also fewer cases in 2014 than 2013.
According to law enforcement sources the reason for this is there is no leadership at the Sheriff’s Department and no one is being held accountable for their performance.
