Louisiana Trio Arrested

EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY, April 1, 2015 - Around 3:30 p.m., a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable was northbound on US 59 when he initiated a traffic stop on a 2013 Dodge Avenger near SH 242.  The car, which was occupied by a woman and two men, exited onto the service road and stopped.  The driver stepped out of the vehicle as instructed and approached the deputy. She acted very nervous, and it increased as they spoke, to the point of her trembling uncontrollably. She said the car was not hers, but belonged to the friend of her boyfriend. After talking with the driver, the deputy walked to the vehicle to speak with the two men, Marcus Davis and Marquice Edden. As he approached and asked for the vehicle’s insurance and their identification, the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana from inside the car. Both men said they did not have any form of identification with them.

Additional patrol units responded to the scene and the deputy asked Williams, the driver, if there was marijuana inside the vehicle. She admitted there was, but said she didn’t know how much.  All three suspects were then detained. A search of the vehicle revealed a 9 mm pistol. There were also two white plastic bags, with one containing multiple freezer bags filled with marijuana and the other had a tightly compressed “brick” of marijuana. The combined weight of the marijuana was over 10 pounds. The deputy then discovered a small plastic sandwich bag containing six smaller yellow plastic bags with cocaine inside, having a combined weight of 2.3 grams. Another small plastic bag contained a red powdery substance that tested positive as MDMA, or Ecstasy (less than 1 gram).

None of the trio claimed ownership of the drugs or the firearm. As a result, all three were charged in connection with the drugs and the two men were charged for being convicted felons in possession of a firearm.

Marquice Desaun Edden, 28, of Shreveport, Louisiana is charged with second-degree felony Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1) more than 1 gram, but less than 4 grams; third-degree felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon; and third-degree felony Possession of Marijuana, more than 5 pounds, but less than 50 pounds.  Edden works as a cook.
