Man Arrested for DWI in River Bottom
LIBERTY, September 14, 2015 - On Saturday, September 12, 2015 at approximately 11:00 PM a City of Liberty Police Officer was running stationary Doppler radar in the 200 in the US90 River Bottom.
The Officer was facing east bound and was clocking the west bound US 90 Traffic. The Officer had his windows down as this day the weather was really cool and nice.
The Officer heard two vehicle engines roar louder as the operators were accelerating their engines. The Officer observed two vehicles heading towards him as a much faster pace then the traffic behind them. The Officer activated his radar antenna and clocked the vehicles traveling at 81 mph in a 65 mph zone.
The first vehicle that passed the Officer was a White Toyota Pickup and as the Officer turned around on the vehicles, he observed that the truck had a brake light out and was able to keep track of the vehicle as it went from lane to lane in the traffic.
The Officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver of the truck. The operator had blood shot eyes, slightly slurred speech and his breath had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his mouth as he answered questions.
The driver agreed to the standard field sobriety test. He performed poorly on the test and was taken into custody for DWI with an open container. The driver refused to give a breath specimen and a blood search warrant was obtained.
A blood sample was a collected and logged into evidence to be sent off for BAC analysis.
The driver, Justus Nathiel Marques age 20 was transported to the Liberty County Jail without further incident.
