LIBERTY, July 17, 2015 - Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge has listed the 2015/16 hunting opportunities on our website. Please be sure to go to our website to see some changes that have occurred from past years. The application fee is now $25 while $15 for hunters 65 years and older and $15 for hunters with a disability that meets the state definition. We will have the application period for ALL hunts during the same time frame (Aug 3 to Aug 29). Any applications received before or after those dates will not be accepted. Write a separate check for waterfowl hunting and we will hold it until we see if water is available. If we cancel waterfowl hunting we will mail the check back. You are welcome to attend.
Please visit Refuge links for: Various types of hunts including the applications and regulations at <http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Trinity_River/visit/hunt.html>; Maps of all the hunt units at <http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Trinity_River/map.html>; and Directions to each unit at <http://www.fws.gov/refuge/trinity_river/plan/directions.html>.
Various tracts in Liberty County, totaling nearly 8,000 acres, will be open to Big Game Hunting for deer and hog, Upland Game hunting for squirrel and rabbit, and Waterfowl hunting. Big Game hunting includes archery, general gun, and muzzleloader.
If selected, you will be allowed to bring one adult guest and a youth (ages 12-17) or two youth hunters at no additional cost. A different number of permits are given out for various units, so please check the website for areas and types of weapons you may use at each unit. Since you will be hunting on a National Wildlife Refuge, special regulations will be enforced as described in the application process. There are specific eligibility rules to meet State standards for hunters with disabilities. A Special Use Permit will be required for hunters with disabilities using all-terrain vehicles.
Fully completed applications, with a check or money order, (No Cash) should be mailed and made payable to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, PO Box 10015, Liberty, TX 77575 between August 3 and August 29.
