Shooting in Horseshoe Lake Estates
LIBERTY, September 6, 2015 - The Liberty County Sheriff’s dispatcher received a “911” call at approximately 4:05 pm this evening regarding a shooting on CR 2859 in the Horseshoe Lake Estates Sub-Division of north Liberty County. Initial reports were that a man had been shot twice, once in both legs. However, according to responding Deputy James McQueen, Daniel Sinclair Smith, age 47 had evidently been shot one time with an unknown caliber firearm with the bullet penetrating both legs. Upon the arrival of Deputies, the suspect, Joel W. Glaskox, age 47 had fled the scene in a red Dodge vehicle.
Deputy McQueen reported that witnesses told him that an argument had apparently developed between Smith and Glaskox regarding a battery and at one point, witnesses said they heard one gun shot. After the gun shot a scream was heard with the remark following, “… it hurts don’t it…”. It appears that Smith dragged himself through an area of tall weeds to a nearby house where he was placed in the back of a pick-up truck while waiting for an air ambulance.
Lead Investigator, Sgt. Robert Dunn later reported that Glaskox’s red Dodge was located at his residence also in the Sub-Division but as of this press release, Glaskox is still on the run as the investigation and the search for him continues. At this time no charges have been filed but, perhaps, will be at a later date after the follow-up investigation.
Daniel Smith was transported to Herman Hospital in Houston by Life Flight air ambulance in unknown condition.
