February Drug Arrests in Liberty County

LIBERTY, March 7, 2015 - The Liberty County Sheriff Office’s Criminal Interdiction Unit continues to take large bites out of the drug traffic that travels to and through Liberty County. The month of February resulted in two such drug arrest with subjects arrested and charged on drug offenses.

On Monday, February 9, 2015 at approximately 8:pm, the Drug Interdiction Unit made a traffic stop on Hwy. 90 near Raywood, Texas in East Liberty County on a black Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle which had an obstructed license plate and defective lighting equipment was driven by Kelvin Todd Benton of the Beaumont area.  After interviewing Kelvin Benton and finding that he had suspicious and inconsistent explanations for his travel plans, Deputies received verbal authorization to inspect the trunk of Benton’s vehicle.  Upon opening the trunk, two duffle bags where found with each bag containing six (6) duct taped “blocks” that were found to be Marijuana. Contents of each duffle bag weighed 27.5 pounds with a combined weight of 55 pounds.

Kevin Todd Benton, age 44 of Euclid Street in Beaumont, Texas was arrested and charged with “Possession of Marijuana”, 50 lbs. but under 200 lbs. which is a second degree felony.  Benton was placed in the Liberty County jail.

A second drug arrest occurred on Thursday, February 27th at approximately 2:30pm when the Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Unit went to a residence on Pecan Loop in the South Liberty oil fields of south Liberty County in order to serve a warrant on Jennifer Lusko for Revocation of Probation (Possession  of a Controlled Substance).

Upon the Deputies arrival, Lusko’s boyfriend, Shaun Thomas Calhoun was observed running to the front door of the residence where he was detained for attempting to warn Lusko of the Deputies presence. Upon entering the residence, Jennifer Lusko was located inside her and Shaun’s bedroom asleep. In plain view, Deputies saw a cigarette package that contained a small bag of suspected “Methamphetamines” as well as a container sitting on the bed table that contained numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia and numerous small ziplock style bags containing a green in color crystal like substance believed to be “Meth” packaged for resale for a total weight of 4.72 grams.

Due to both parties having the suspected narcotics in their possession, both Shaun Thomas Calhoun, age 31 of Pecan Loop, Liberty, Texas and Jennifer Sue Lusko, age 45 also of Pecan Loop St. were charged with “Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance”, a Second Degree Felony and each were placed in the Liberty County jail.

Shaun Calhoun is also currently on Parole for Narcotics offenses.
