Child Drowns at Water Park UPDATE

DAYTON, July 26, 2015 – A family outing at the “Nine Mile Lake Water Park” at 756 CR 650 in South Liberty County turned tragic this afternoon when a little two year old boy drowned in a small two acre man-made lake. The Liberty County Sheriff’s dispatcher received a “911” call at approximately 5:21 pm this evening saying the little boy had been missing for about twenty to thirty minutes. His parents, Londell Laviene and Bonnie Tarrant had been circling the lake calling for their son as well as using a public address system to get his attention.

According to the report of Sheriff’s Deputy Ruben Arellano, lead investigator, there happened to be a City of Kenefick First Responder also at the park who took control of the search operations that led to the recovery of the young child. First Responder Cameron Lerma called for about ten people to hold hands and begin wading slowly through the 3’ deep water to see if anyone could feel the child on the bottom of the lake. One of the women in the search team bumped into the little boy and he was immediately brought to the beach where CPR was started but to no avail. Justice of the Peace Judge Larry Wilburn was called to the scene where the little boy was pronounced deceased. An autopsy has been ordered.

The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office however, at this point it appears the drowning was a tragic accidental drowning.
