Decomposed body found in Liberty County

MOSS HILL, December 1, 2015 – The partially decomposed body of a man was found around 9:am this morning lying in a dry creek bed approximately 15’ south of a bridge that is about a quarter mile West of the Hwy. 105 Trinity River bridge in north Liberty County. The remains were discovered by a deer hunter riding his ATV and emerging from a nearby wooded area under the Hwy. 105 bridge.

Lead Investigator Sgt. Paul Lasco of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said at this time there is no obvious cause of death. Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Cody Parrish arrived on the scene and ordered an autopsy.

The investigation is on-going by Sgt. Lasco and no determination of the cause of death or identity of the remains will be available until the autopsy and DNA testing is completed.

The man has been identified as Billy Joe Hughes (WM) DOB 4-01-84 with an address in Cleveland, Texas which will be around the Davis Hill Big Thicket area off Hwy. 105.
