Escapee Phillip Henry Freeman

LIBERTY, October 31, 2015 - According to Sheriff’s Investigators Sgt. Josh Cummins and Sgt. Billy Knox, owners of various hunting camps off CR 2309 in mid-Liberty County were reporting thefts from their camps of various items. In addition, game camera’s that were set up in the wooded hunting areas were evidently having the “memory sticks” removed from the camera’s by someone. However, there appeared to be one camera that was missed and did not have the memory stick removed and it took a profile photograph of a subject that investigators confirmed as being that of PHILLIP HENRY FREEMAN, the escapee from the Liberty County jail. It appeared this photograph ( which is attached to this e-mail) was taken sometime between Sunday, October 25th. and Tuesday, October 27th. with no specific time stamp on the photograph.

Acting on this information, the wooded area off CR 2309 was quickly covered and searched by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputies, Texas Rangers, Texas Highway Patrol, DPS Criminal Investigation Division, Chambers County Sheriff’s Dept, Liberty County Pct. 5 Constables, TDC horses and tracking dogs as well as a DPS Helicopter. This search was conducted from Thursday afternoon, October 29th. until well into the night but Freeman was not located.

It is not known if Phillip Freeman is still in the area of CR 2309 and that particular section of woods or has now moved to some other area of the county but Investigators are now confident that he is still in Liberty County.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is still asking for the public’s help in reporting any suspicious activity that might involve the activity or whereabouts of Phillip Freeman.
In addition, Crime Stoppers will offer a reward for any information leading to the arrest of Freeman by calling 1-800-392-7867. Their identity will remain anonymous.
