Drowning at Sylvan Beach Park
LA PORTE, May 28, 2015 - Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at approximately 2pm the Chambers County 911 operator received a call of a possible drowning at the Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte.
The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office-Marine Division responded to assist in the search for 40 year old Carlos Guillermo Torres-Gonzalez from Pasadena, Texas.
It was reported by witnesses that Carlos dove in the waters to help his 13 year old nephew, who had wondered beyond the safety swimming markers and started to have problems swimming against the current. Although his nephew was recovered safely, Carlos never surfaced. His body was later located by the recovery team and was transported to the Jefferson County Medical Examiners.
This case is still under investigation by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
