Man Arrested with Stolen Car

DAISETTA February 16, 2015 – On Tuesday, 01/27/2015 at approximately 1:30 PM, Chief Mike Parrish and Officer Terry Cosgrove, of the Daisetta Police Department received information from Liberty County Precinct #2 Constable's Office Deputy Constable Chris Dryer that a stolen vehicle had been seen and was believed in operation both in the Community of Hull and the City of Daisetta. The vehicle was described as a white 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible with a black soft top. The vehicle had been entered as stolen by the City of Liberty Police Department.

The officers located the vehicle leaving Bobcat Lane and traveling northbound on Old FM Hwy 834 toward Hull on 01/27/2014 at approximately 4:00 PM. Officer Terry Cosgrove, Chief Mike Parrish and Deputy Dryer initiated their emergency lighting to affect a traffic stop on Old FM Hwy 834 just north of Daisetta. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as being 38-year-old W/M Daniel Ray Burch veered off the roadway momentarily and threw a small bag from the window of the stolen vehicle. Burch, a known member of the Aryan Brotherhood, then veered back onto the roadway and came to a stop approximately 75-yards further north.

The vehicle was confirmed as being stolen when the vehicle identification number was checked, however the Mustang was bearing a TEXAS TRUCK LP# CA56080 on the rear at the time of the stop. The vehicle was obviously not a Texas Truck.

Pct #2 Constable Les Hulsey, Deputy Constable Chad Langdon and Liberty County Sheriff's Office Sergeant James Sprayberry also arrived to assist.

While Chief Parrish remained with the suspect, Deputy Dryer and Officer Cosgrove then walked the short distance back to where Burch had tossed the bag from the window of the moving vehicle and quickly recovered the small bag which contained a crystalline rock-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Deputy Dryer performed a narcotics field test on the suspected narcotics and the test indicated that the substance was indeed methamphetamine.

Burch was taken into custody on a Liberty County Pct #2 Constable's Office charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a State Jail Felony. Burch, also known as "Short Fuse," was transported to the Liberty County Jail where he was released to the jail staff for booking.

A bond was set at $10,000.00 for Daniel Ray Burch's charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor vehicle and he was bonded by ASAP Bail Bonds of Liberty, Texas on Friday, 01/30/2015.

Charges against Daniel "Short Fuse" Burch in regard tp Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (Methamphetamine) greater than 1 gram but less than 4 grams (Third Degree Felony) and Tampering with Evidence (Third Degree Felony) have been filed by Liberty County Pct #2 Constable's Office through the Office of Liberty County Pct #2 Justice of the Peace, Judge Ronnie Davis. Two felony warrants have been issued for the arrest of Daniel Ray Burch.
