Trinity River Flooding Update
LIBERTY, June 3, 2015 - On June 3, 2015 at 4:00 PM current release from the Lake Livingston Dam remains at 68,200 cubic feet per second.
Trinity River stage is as follows:
Romayor is at 36.85 and slowly falling
Liberty is at 29.83 and appears to be very slowly falling.
Moss Bluff gauge is not functioning, last verified at 14.86 and should continue a slow rise to 15 feet.
We have received lots of calls today regarding FEMA assistance and I want everyone to know that this will be a long process due to the fact the river remains several feet above flood stage and it is unsafe to send in teams to conduct damage assessments.
We continue to ask residents to report their damage to us by calling 936-334-3219 and to pre-register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362. So far 16 people have contacted our office to report water in their homes.
We will not know if a FEMA declaration for individual assistance will be approved until the water goes down to a point where the roads are passable and we are able to safely get assessment teams from the state into the affected areas to determine the extent of flood damage.
Red Cross officials continue to operate a shelter at 318 San Jacinto Street in Liberty and several folks have taken refuge at the Davis Hill Church in north Liberty County to wait out the rising water. Red Cross is indicating that those residents may move to another location in the Cleveland area tomorrow and if a shelter opens in Cleveland I will let everyone know the address.
Slow improvement but still a long journey ahead, just know that everyone is working diligently to see to the needs of those affected.
If you chose to stay home and are ready to come out and go to the shelter, you can call the Sheriffs Department at 936-336-4500 ext 0 for assistance. Those with an emergency should call 911.
All moves should continue to be made in daylight hours due to the dangerous conditions.
