Trinity River Status

LIBERTY, July 16, 2015 - After 64 days above flood stage, the Trinity River has finally fallen below flood stage throughout Liberty County.

The recovery stage of this event is well underway and 577 residents have signed up for FEMA assistance. The Disaster Recovery Center, located at 318 San Jacinto Street in Liberty will remain open until 6 pm tomorrow, Friday July 17th.

Residents that cannot make it to the center can call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 to register for assistance or ask questions concerning a claim.

County Commissioners are preparing documentation of road and bridge damages for presentation to FEMA officials next week in order to apply for reimbursement for repairs made necessary by the flood.

Over the past couple of months a number of agencies and local organizations have assisted residents that were affected by the flood. The American Red Cross operated the shelter and provided food, water and cleaning supplies to residents.

Many local churches also offered assistance, the Liberty Wal-Mart donated food, water and other items and Community Education Centers (CEC) donated cooking utensils, food, and a washer and dryer that can be used at the county shelter building.

Many thanks to all that helped. Special thanks to our media partners for helping us keep our residents informed.

We will continue to work though the recovery phase of this event and update as warranted.
