Clarifying Liberty County Disaster Declaration
LIBERTY, June 10, 2015 - According to Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator, Tom Branch, Liberty County, as of 8 am today, HAS NOT received confirmation that our county is added to the INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE side of the Presidential Disaster Declaration.
There are two sides of the declaration, one is INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE or IA and one is PUBLIC ASSISTANCE or PA.
Liberty County has been added to the PA side, which allows a county to seek reimbursement for damages to public infrastructure.( roads, bridges, etc.)
Liberty County HAS NOT been added to the IA side, which allows residents whose homes or businesses have been affected, to file for assistance.
FEMA along with state and local officials took an aerial tour of the area yesterday and made note of damages.
FEMA will review the findings and advise our eligibility status for IA. This decision could come as early as today or as late as the weekend but I will pass it on as soon as we know one way or the other.
