Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect
LIBERTY, April 16, 2015 – Coverage and intensity of thunderstorms continues to increase late this afternoon, and these storms will continue to overspread the region through tonight. Some areas have already received considerable rainfall, along with hail and strong winds, with the more intense storms.
Multiple watches and warnings are already in effect, including a severe thunderstorm watch across central TX, just west of the Houston metro where the air is more supportive of intense thunderstorms. We will continue to monitor the situation and will bring the watch east as needed. Along with flooding, the primary threats will be large hail (up to 1-1.5" in diameter) as the storms initially develop, along with 50-60 mph winds, mostly in the watch area.
The potential for flash flooding is also increasing and a flash flood watch is in effect through tonight and tomorrow near the coast and inland a row of counties including Harris county. Although localized flooding is possible anywhere in the area, the greatest concern is across the flash flood watch where the ground is already nearly saturated.
Please stayed tuned into the weather this evening through the day tomorrow, as we remain in a very active weather pattern.
