LIBERTY, October 31, 2015 - The City of Liberty and many other portions of Liberty County received more than a foot of rain overnight and this morning and many roads throughout the county have water running across them.
The rain is slowly moving out and although several people have evacuated their homes due to high water in their neighborhoods,no shelters are being opened at this time and we ask anyone that does leave to try to find a friend or relative to stay with until the rain stops and they can get back home, which we hope will occur this afternoon.
Turning our attention to the Trinity River,it is obvious this rain did not help the impending flood threat along the river and we still anticipate a major flood event along the Trinity next week as water comes down from North Texas.
Latest information is that the Livingston Dam is releasing 39,400 cubic feet per second(cfs) and we anticipate an increase to at least 65,000 cfs over the next few days.
As we have been telling folks all week,if you live along the river, make preparations for a flood event similar to what we saw in the summer. The time to prepare is now,not after the water rises.
We will update as warranted.
