Trinity River Conditions

LIBERTY, October 29, 2015 - The latest data is still calling for the Trinity River to reach Major Flood Stage in Liberty ( above 29 feet) sometime next week, as the release from the Lake Livingston Dam is increased to accommodate incoming flood waters. Current release at the dam is 18,000 Cubic Feet per Second (cfs) and we still anticipate a slow increase up to 65,000 cfs by next week.

Local residents living along the Trinity River are ask to prepare now for this high water event. You should plan for an event similar to this summers flood, however,it is expected that this event will be much shorter in duration. The summer flood lasted 64 days, and right now we see this high water event lasting a week or so.

Should you decide to leave your home, please do so before the high water arrives. There are a number of folks that will simply stay in their homes, most of which are elevated, and we ask those individuals to please get whatever supplies you may want to have on hand before the water arrives.

It is most likely that this event WILL NOT meet the requirements for FEMA assistance, so please plan accordingly.

Local residents along the river have done this many times and you know what to do, so please take the time to prepare for this event and make certain you are monitoring local media for updates.

Please call the Liberty County Office of Emergency Management at 936-334-3219 if you have any questions.
