Our speaker for September will be Kathie Holder; her presentation will be on Hummingbirds. Fall is the time for the migration of millions of hummingbirds from North America to Central/ South America. The Liberty-Dayton area will see a tremendous number of migrating hummingbirds in September. Kathie is an expert in attracting and feeding hummingbirds. She has 34 feeders at her home and attracts hundreds of hummers each day. Kathie explains how she became interested in hummers, “Each September, Bob Sargent, and his group of hummingbird banders arrived for the hummingbird Festival and they opened my eyes to all that is hummingbird. I would see him and his group each September and with his book in hand and I absorbed all I could. Many phone calls to him over the years- I gained more knowledge and confidence to feel that I could share what I knew with others. My interests lie in introducing young people to birds as well as sharing all I know about hummingbirds with anyone that is interested.”
