Lower Trinity Valley Bird Club Meetiong

LIBERTY, March 5, 2015 - The March meeting of the LOWER TRINITY VALLEY BIRD CLUB will be held on, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at The FLNB Corner (1822 Sam Houston Av, Liberty, TX) across for the First Liberty National Bank. The FLNB Corner is at the intersection of Sam Houston Av. and Travis St. Be sure to come early at 9:30 a.m. for our “Birder’s Chat” time. The speaker for March will be Paul Gregg and his presentation will be “Raptors with An Emphasis on Bald Eagles.”

Birds of prey are a fascination for photographer, Paul Gregg. Though he loves photographing birds of any species, size, color, etc., he is strongly driven to capture birds of prey with his camera. The presentation gives overview of a number of birds of prey, but the overall emphasis will be on the bald eagle which has a steadily growing population in Southeast Texas.

Paul is an avid, advanced amateur photographer. He has been presenting free photography classes to the Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at the New Caney and Atascocita locations for Lone Star College for 4 years. The classes are basic birding photography, travelling Texas and other locations, an Iceland photography trip he took in 2011, and a presentation of Zion National Park in Utah and most recently a vacation to the northwest states of Oregon, Washington, and Vancouver BC, Canada. He has made presentations to 6 of the photography/camera clubs in the area. He also presents a CEU 4 hour course in beginning digital photography at Lone Star College in Kingwood.

He has written articles and submitted photographs for various publications including the quarterly Air Force Reserve Chaplain’s Newsletter, The Humble Observer, and Liberty County newspapers.

Paul retired from the U. S. Air Force in September, 2007, retiring with just over 29 years of combined active and reserve duty. He retired in 2005 from the Harris County (TX) Community Supervision and Corrections Department (adult probation) as a Community Supervision Officer. He has some 25 years of experience in probation and parole.

Paul has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (1979) from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. His minor is in Bible, lacking one course for a double major. He has pastoral experience and was instrumental in starting 5 churches. He was the chaplain for Florida’s 7th largest prison for 16 months.
