Man Dies in Tractor Accident

TARKINGTON, November 2, 2014 – In what could be considered a “freak accident” resulted in the death of Charles William Lippold, age 65 at his home on CR 2191 in the Tarkington Prairie area at around 12:40pm this afternoon.

According to responding Liberty County Deputy Sheriff Justin Johnston, it appeared that Mr. Lippold was hauling a round bale of hay on the back of his tractor and was backing up when he ran over what Dep. Johnston described as a “feeding ring”, a device made from aluminum pipe that holds hay in place while livestock feed off the hay. The tractor broke a piece of the pipe that makes up the feeding ring allowing the pipe to break away and spring upward striking Mr. Lippold in the head. Mrs. Lippold was with her husband when this accident happened.

Mr. Lippold was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice Of the Peace Judge Ralph Fuller. Due to the circumstances of the accident, no autopsy was ordered.
