Liberty Teacher Sentenced Late Today

LIBERTY, March 19, 2014 - Today the sentencing hearing for  Valerie Celeste Moore was held in the 75th District Court in the Liberty  County Courthouse.

Moore, a Liberty High School Sign Language Teacher, was accused back in April of 2013 of Improper Relationship between Educator and Student and the City of Liberty Police Department investigated the case.

Moore was a resident of Houston and was in her first year of teaching in Liberty Schools when the allegations surfaced. Moore is the mother of  a small child.

Moore agreed to a guilty plea to the lesser charge of Indecency with a Child by Exposure and to being sentenced by a jury to avoid a trial. All the court proceedings in this case occurred this week.

Late today, the jury found Moore guilty and sentenced her to 10 year incarceration in the Texas Prison System and a $2,500 dollar fine. Furthermore 75th District Court Judge Mark Morefield reminded Moore that she must register as a sex offender for 10 years after her sentence is completed.
