Spirithose Ramps Up
LIBERTY, October 7, 2014 –This week is your last chance to get in on the SpiritHorse Benefit Raffle of a custom made 15 inch saddle and stand built at Hightower Unit and donated to SpiritHorse by C. J. Johnson. Tickets are $5 each and are available at the SpiritHorse facility, Chachere Feed, and Liberty County Tack. Only 800 tickets will be sold. The drawing will be on the final night of the rodeo - Saturday, October 18 at the TVE Fairgrounds.
SpiritHorse staff, board members, the riders' parents, and friends will serve chicken fingers, nachos, drinks, bar-be-que sandwiches, plus other "fair food" in both concession stands during the nightly rodeos. A percentage of concession stand profits will be donated to SpiritHorse so they may continue helping special needs children and adults, veterans, and abused women and children. These therapeutic riding lessons are FREE for these riders. Typical riders donate $20 per lesson. The hardworking SpiritHorse Family will combine efforts with the Liberty County Sheriff's Mounted Posse to park cars safely for the events during the TVE week of October 14 - 18. Parking is $5.
Another fundraising being done by SpiritHorse is the selling of chili and taco mix, and pork rub. Each package is $5. You may purchase your cool weather meal mixes at the SpiritHorse facility or from Melany Burkes, D.D.S.' office in Dayton.
A larger tack room has been delivered to the SpiritHorse facility. This 14 x 20 buildingallows room for the more than 30 saddles, blankets, headstalls, girths, helmets, and equipment needed for the therapeutic lessons. With a desk in the new tack room, lesson paperwork will be completed following each lesson.
Instructors and staff are always needed to help with gardening, cooking, maintenance, grooming of the horses, and lessons.
