Daisetta Man Arrested for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon

DAISETTA, September 9, 2014 – On Wednesday, 08/13/2014, at approximately 11:31 AM Liberty County Pct #2 Deputy Constable Chris Dryer was patrolling CR 2050 in the Community of Hull, Liberty County, Texas when he observed two white males traveling ahead of him on bicycles near the intersection of CR 2050 & CR 2048. As Deputy Dryer neared these two subjects in a marked patrol unit both pulled over to the shoulder of the road and stopped voluntarily. This action seemed suspicious so Deputy Dryer then stopped his patrol unit and, upon seeing their faces, Dryer knew they were from Daisetta. Deputy Dryer also knew that the Daisetta Police Department was involved in various investigations involving the two. One of the two subjects had what appeared to be the handle of a very large knife protruding from the top of a backpack, stored in a fashion which made it easily accessible if reaching with his right hand over his left shoulder. Dryer made contact with Chief Mike Parrish of the Daisetta Police Department who drove to the scene to assist.

Once on scene, Parrish observed the handle of the knife and asked the subject, who was then positively identified as being 38-year-old W/M Kenneth Wayne Roach Jr of 104A Cypress in Daisetta, what was protruding from the backpack.

Roach informed Parrish it was a collectible knife. For the safety of all persons present, Parrish removed the knife from Roach's person and discovered it was a very heavy faux ivory handled knife with a blade nearing nine inches in length.

Parrish seized the knife as evidence and he and Deputy Dryer then released the two from the detention.

On Monday, 09/08/2014, Liberty County Precinct #2 Justice of the Peace Ronnie Davis issued a warrant for the arrest of Roach charging Roach with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor. On Tuesday, 09/09/2014, Deputy Dryer and Daisetta Police Officer Terry Cosgrove located Roach at Shannon's Trailer Park off CR 2437 in the Community of Hull, Liberty County, Texas. Roach was also wanted on two outstanding Daisetta Municipal Court warrants for the offenses of Disorderly Conduct and Theft of Services, both Class C Misdemeanors. The officers then served the warrants and placed Roach in Liberty County Jail. While effecting the arrest of Roach, the officers encountered a 25-year-old W/M identified as being John Oneal Nichols II of Hull who was found to be wanted on a Hardin County warrant for the offense of Terroristic Threat.

Roach is also the subject of a separate narcotic's trafficking investigation being conducted between the Daisetta Police Department and Liberty County Precinct #4 Constable's Office. Charges are pending further investigation in that case.
