Human Body Found in Barn
LIBERTY, April 29, 2014 - At approximately noon today and acting on information received from Liberty County Pct. 3 Constable Mark Davidson, Sgt. Investigator Brian Bortz of the Sheriff’s Department went to the home of Billy Bennett at 26385 Hwy. 146 in North Liberty County to check on a reported body in a barn behind the residence.
The scene was secured while Sgt. Investigator Chris Ungles secured a search warrant for that location from Judge Chap Cain’s 253rd District Court. Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy to determine a possible cause of death and other vital information.
Although this case is still in the early stage of investigation by Sgt. Bortz with other possible charges pending, Capt. Mark Ellington stated that Billy Ray Bennett age 44 was arrested and charged with Tampering with Evidence and Abuse of a Corpse. Bennett was placed in the Liberty County jail and will go before a Judge in the morning.
Bennett has a lenghy criminal history in Liberty County including Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Non Support, Theft and Violate Promise to Appear.
