Fake Refund Scheme Results in Arrests

LIBERTY, April 23, 2014 - According to Detective Jennifer Bowles with the City of Liberty Police Department officers were summoned to the Wal-Mart for two females in reference to a theft from the store.

When officers arrived one of the females was attempting to get into a vehicle and was detained.

According to Detective Bowles the women came into the store without any merchandise and then collected several items in the store. They then proceeded to the customer service area and requested a refund for the merchandise. They presented numerous receipts as proof of purchase for the merchandise and were issued a refund in the amount of $252.46. They then exited the store into the parking lot.

Both Nicole Smith age 33 and Tabatha Boyles age 31 were arrested, charged with Theft of Property and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
