Fatal Crash in Dayton Sunday Afternoon

DAYTON, July 7, 2014 - On Saturday, July 5th, 2014, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Dayton Police Department, Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Liberty County EMS responded to a one vehicle accident on US Hwy. 90, just west of the Best Western Hotel.  

A silver 2003 Toyota Avalon was eastbound on US Hwy. 90, traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered off the roadway to the right.  The vehicle continued eastbound through the ditch striking a culvert and flipping end over end multiple times, ejecting the driver and the burning engine from the car. 

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, 67 y/o Leon Mills of Houston, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Wade Brown.  The accident is being investigated by Officer Curtis Trousdale and Officer Rawltyn Hart of the Dayton Police Department.
