Lee to host info sessions on clinical medical assistant program
ANAHUAC, August 13, 2014 - Lee College will offer its clinical medical assistant (CMA) program in Anahuac this August, giving residents of Chambers County the opportunity to train for an exciting and rewarding health care career without having to travel far from home.
Information sessions for the CMA program in Anahuac will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, at the Anahuac High School library. Potential students will meet staff from the college Center for Workforce and Community Development and learn more about entry requirements, class registration, financial aid opportunities and scholarships available to help pay for the cost of the program.
Medical assistants perform routine clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists and optometrists running smoothly. A typical workday may include assisting a physician during an examination, working with patients to accurately record medical histories and vital signs, or collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory testing.
The Anahuac CMA program is a part-time commitment that will run from Aug. 25, 2014, through June 5, 2015. Students will attend classes twice per week at Anahuac High School, ultimately completing 140 total classroom hours and 48 hours of clinical rotation at local facilities.
Program participants will also be eligible for CPR classes, immunizations and other special opportunities being developed by the college workforce center and its community partners, including the Anahuac Independent School District, Chambers County Health District, Chambers Recovery Team and United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County.
