Shooting Death Investigation by LCSO
LIBERTY, November 20, 2014 –On the evening of Wednesday, November 19th, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was called to the 300 block of County Road 166 to investigate a shooting. The first call was received on 911 shortly after 9:00 p.m. The 13 year old caller stated two men in a silver Chevy pickup had pulled up to his house and were in an altercation with his father. The altercation quickly progressed into one of the men from the truck being shot. There are several conflicting stories and possibly more than one gun was present.
The shooting victim died at the scene. An inquest was held by Justice of the Peace #1 Stephen Hebert. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, November 20th, in Beaumont.
The victim was identified as Justin Calvin Banning, 29, of Dayton, TX. The other person that had arrived at the residence on C.R. 166 was Tracy Banning, 33, also of Dayton.
The scene of the shooting and evidence was still being processed on Thursday morning. There are no arrests yet. The lead investigator for LCSO is Sgt. Brian Bortz. Autopsy
Results and further investigation will determine how investigators proceed with suspects and potential criminal charges.
