Driver Stopped and Arrested in Daisetta

DAISETTA, February 6, 2014 - Wednesday afternoon Constable Robbie Thornton of Dayton stopped at the intersection of FM 160 and FM 770 in Raywood behind a car that was crossways in the southbound lanes of FM 770. Constable Thornton attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle sped off heading north on FM 770 toward Daisetta.

Units from Daisetta Police were dispatched to assist Constable Thornton in getting the 2008 Jeep Compass stopped.

The pursuit ran all the way into Daisetta before the vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Plum Street and FM 770.

As the Daisetta units approached the vehicle Officers noticed pills in the vehicle according to Constable Thornton.

The driver of the vehicle was Douglas Garrett Jones age 39 of Daisetta.

Jones was not feeling well so an ambulance was dispatched to transport him to the hospital in Liberty where he was later released.

Jones was transported to the Liberty County Jail charged with Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

According to Liberty County EMS, Douglas Garrett Jones was a paramedic with Liberty County EMS and was terminated yesterday after they learned he ran from police.
