2014 Public Hurricane Preparedness Workshop
LIBERTY, May 19, 2014 - The Liberty County Office of Emergency Management, which represents the cities of Ames, Daisetta, Dayton, Dayton Lakes, Devers, Hardin, Kenefick, and Plum Grove, as well as all unincorporated areas of the county, along with Emergency Managers for the Cities of Cleveland and Liberty, would like to invite all residents to attend the 2014 Public Hurricane Preparedness Workshop set for Thursday May 22nd at 6 30 pm. This years event will be held at the Cleveland Civic Center located at 210 Peach Avenue in Cleveland, Texas.
Representatives from the National Weather Service, the Red Cross, and other support agencies, will address issues of importance regarding the 2014 Hurricane Season, which begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th.
We hope to see you there, as this is a great opportunity for you to receive information on how to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.
We encourage local residents to begin preparing now, by stocking up on non-perishable food items (Spam, vienna sausage, potted meat, chips, crackers, etc…) as well as water. It is important to understand that it will likely take at least 72 hours (3 days) after the storm clears our area, for county officials to receive and begin distributing the first shipments of food and water. You must be prepared to take care of yourself and your family during that time. (Road clearing and search and rescue are the first things that take place after a storm impacts our area.) If officials call for an evacuation of the county, please be prepared to leave and if you choose to stay, remember that conditions will be miserable to say the least and you will be “ on your own” for an extended period of time once conditions deteriorate.
Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend our 2014 Public Hurricane Preparedness Workshop on Thursday May 22nd at 6 30pm at the Cleveland Civic Center in Cleveland, Texas.
Please feel free to give us a call at 936-334-3219 if you have any questions regarding hurricane preparations.
