Hunger Doesn't Take A Vacation

LIBERTY, May 16, 2014 - The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) helps ensure children in low-income areas have access to nutritious meals during long school vacations, when they do not receive school lunch or school breakfast. It provides nutritious meals at no cost to children 18 and younger during the summer months, so they can return to school in the fall ready to succeed.

As the academic year winds down, schools across Texas will be sending each student home with a postcard that explains the three tools families can use to locate a nearby meal site.

In Liberty, Texas, Liberty Independent School District partners with local volunteers to feed children in our rural areas who may not be able to reach the main school campus site. Therefore, nutritious meals are transported to various distribution sites in the area, so children can gain access to the meals. The dates are Monday through Thursday starting Monday, June 9th and ending Thursday, August 7th. Meals will be prepared at Liberty Middle School. A “pick up” breakfast will be served at LMS for the same dates above from 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. Lunch meals will be served between 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. at the following locations: Liberty Middle School located at 2515 Jefferson Drive, Liberty High School located at 2615 Jefferson Dr., Liberty Elementary School located at 1002 Bowie Street, and San Jacinto Elementary School located at 1629 Grand Ave. (in rear), Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 411 Milam Street, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office located at 501 Palmer Avenue (back door), Lily of the Valley Baptist Church located at 3802 Oil Field Rd, New Family Worship Center located at 2512 Grand Ave, Liberty City Park Pavilion, Turkey Creek Baptist Church located at 1600 Wallisville Rd.
