Secure, Take and Lock
LIBERTY, November 25, 2014 – It sounds so simple and should be common practice but many forget and wind up being the victim of an auto burglary.
Secure your belongings. Take your keys. Lock your car.
The Insurance Council of Texas and their representative Mark Hanna came to Liberty in partnership with the City of Liberty Police Department to bring a signage program to help deter Auto Burglaries in Liberty.
Soon you will see about 50 signs like the one above spring up all over town to warn and advise motorist to Secure, Take and Lock you car.
These signs will help Texans deter the criminal element. “The people who break into cars are simply looking for an opportunity,” said Mark Hanna. “We want to help remind folks remove these opportunities by locking their cars, taking their keys and hiding their valuables.”
In Texas, an estimated 100,000 vehicles are stolen and another 250,000 are burglarized each year. It is also estimated that half of the vehicles stolen had the drivers’ keys left in the ignition and/or unlocked doors.
This program has been successful in other cities at reducing auto burglaries by as much as 20 percent according to Mark Hanna.
