Felony Theft Copper Wire

ANAHUAC, May 1, 2014 - Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne reports that on April 23, 2014, while on patrol Deputy J. Cordell stopped several vehicles in the vicinity of recent known copper wire thefts in Anahuac. Investigator S. Arredondo with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was called to the traffic stop and was able to identify multiple suspects involved in the incident.

Further investigation led to the discovery of several similar thefts in the area including Texas City, La Marque, Dickinson, Alvin and Brazoria County. CID Investigators are working with other law enforcement agencies in these areas to assist with their investigations of possible crimes committed by these suspects. It is estimated at this time that Entergy has a loss of $100,000.00 in the Chambers County area alone.

The suspects operated under the name High-Tech Cable and went throughout the area removing copper wire from transmission lines acting as lineman working for the electrical company.

Alan Keith Bruce (37 w/m) of Conroe, Jaren Corey Mello (22 w/m) of Lumberton, Gary Christopher Nelms (39 w/m) of Texas City, and Paul Edward White, Jr.(28 w/m) of Partland, Maine were arrested and taken into custody at the scene and then booked into Chambers County Jail on charges of felony theft, with a bond of $25,000.00, and felony criminal mischief with a bond of $100,000.00 each.
