Aggravated Kidnapping at Walgreens

DAYTON, July 7, 2014 – On Saturday, July 5th, 2014 at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Dayton Police Department received a call from the Liberty Police Department in reference to an alleged Aggravated Kidnapping.  Corp. Billy Hibbits was dispatched to the Miller’s Shell Station on US 90 in Liberty to meet with Liberty PD Officers who had a W/M detained.  After arriving on the scene, Corp. Hibbits learned that a 19 y/o female resident of Dayton had exited Walgreens after shopping and was forced into her vehicle at knife point by a 17 y/o male, later identified as Larry Bissell of Dayton Lake Estates.

Bissell ordered the 19 y/o female to take him to Jasper and had her drive through the City of Liberty.  Due to quick thinking on her part, the female convinced Bissell to allow her to pull over and purchase cigarettes for the long ride.

When Bissell escorted the female into the store, the female was able to mouth to the clerk to “call the police” and went into the bathroom and locked herself inside.  When the Liberty Police Department arrived and confronted Bissell, he pulled an open pocket knife from his pocket and was quickly taken into custody.  Bissell was then transported to the Dayton Police Department , and after being interviewed, was placed in the Liberty County Jail, charged with Aggravated Kidnapping.  The 19 y/o female was returned safely to her family.

Due to the quick actions of the employees of Miller’s Shell Station, Officer Dickerson and Officer Walter of the Liberty Police Department, and the victim herself, this very serious crime was kept from possibly becoming a tragic one.
