Early Morning Arrest in Liberty
LIBERTY, May 1, 2013 - In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 2nd, 2013, the Liberty Police Department received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Monta and Browning. The vehicle had already left the area when the officers arrived. The officers began looking for the vehicle and Officer Frank Longoria found the vehicle near Texas and Grand.
The vehicle attempted to elude the officers while working its way to Highway 90. Officer Longoria, assisted by Officers Liz Polasek and Chance Maddox were able to stop the vehicle near Highway 90 and Main.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Samuel Ray Ganz, age 22, of Liberty was arrested for Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and transported to the Liberty County Jail. During the investigation the officers found items in the vehicle they believed might have been stolen.
Shortly after daylight LPD began receiving numerous calls from citizens who reported their car had been burglarized during the night, and they received the good news their stolen property was in LPD custody waiting for the owners to call and claim it. Additional charges are expected as this is an ongoing investigation.
LPD would like to commend these officers, as well as Dispatcher Cecilia Drake, for their “Committed to Excellence” attitude and going that extra step to help make Liberty a safer place to live. LPD would also like to thank the citizen that initially called in this vehicle and encourage citizens to call in anytime they feel something is suspicious.
