Fatal Accident US 90 in Liberty
LIBERTY, December 10, 2013 - On December 9, 2013 at approximately 3:50 pm a 2003 Blue Chevy Tahoe driven by Melba Campbell age 43 from Hankamer and her passenger Clay Campbell age 55 also from Hankamer were turning East on US HWY 90 from HWY 146 Bypass. While commercial vehicle (Bobtail Tank)driven by Javier Garcia-Robles 26 years old from Mexico City (currently living in Humble Texas)was traveling West on US HWY 90.
According to Mr. Garcia-Robles and witnesses the light turned red for East and West bound traffic on US HWY 90. Ms. Campbell proceeded into the intersection and was struck by Mr. Garcia-Robles who failed to stop at the red light.
Three vehicles were stopped East bound in the turn lane for HWY 146 Bypass when the accident occurred causing damage to all vehicles. The first vehicle was a Ford F150 driven by Michael Smith age 48 of Louisiana and passenger Jackie Smith age 72 of Pasadena. Jackie Smith was transported to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident. The next vehicle is a Dodge truck driven by Katherina Tanner age 54 of Dayton. The last vehicle was a Buick passenger car driven by Alisha Stephen age 45 of Louisiana and passenger Meg Stephens age 15 from Louisiana.
Melba Cammpbell was pornounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Stephen Hebert. Clay Cmpbell was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for injuries sustained in the accident.
Javier Garcia-Robles was arrested for Criminal Negligent Homicide and transported to Liberty County Jail.
